04) Lessons from Minneapolis and Their Award-Winning 2040 Plan
A Talk by Robin Garwood , Cam Gordon and David Schultz
About this Talk
Cam Gordon presents the Minneapolis Story and its residential development of zoning areas. They go into detail about the racial segregation and disparities resulting from zoning codes created in the 1960’s, and the impact that people of colour experience today in the current housing market crisis. The Minneapolis 2040 Plan was created that outlines 6 values, 14 goals, with over 100 policies to try to increase housing as part of the housing solution to deal with the underlying issues that many face in this crisis. David Schultz goes through the shortcomings of the Minneapolis 2040 Plan, and suggests new ways the plan can be approved, and other innovative solutions through policy. In the Q&A session, Bill Barberg asks questions about the Minneapolis 2040 Plan, to which Cam Gordon and Robin Garwood address the concerns that many people have.
